Travel Diary: Austria & Belgium

About 2 weeks ago, I started my trip to Belgium. I went with a car, so it was a bit of a hassle, but I got used to being in the car all the time. Since there's more than 2000 km to Belgium, we had to spend the night somewhere. Aaand what's better for that than Vienna? We figured since we have to spend 2 nights somewhere (1 to Belgium and 1 to Bosnia), Vienna is the best option.

First day: Vienna, baby
On our way to Vienna, we went to Parndorf which is a huge outlet center near the capital city. It mostly has designer stores and some others, like MANGO, adidas, Esprit, Reebok, claire's etc.

The first day, we were extremely tired, because we spent the whole night in the car. We came to our hostel around 1:00 pm, put our suitcases in the room, ate something and immediately went out. We had no time to lose, right? Vienna is such a beautiful city and it has a lot of things to offer and I just could not stay in my room for another minute. I went there last year and there are some places that I could suggest you to visit and those are:
1. The Ringstrasse - which was actually built to replace the city walls from the 13th century; you can see Vienna State Opera, Austrian Parliament Building which was built in greek style and it's very interesting to see, the Kriegsministerium in neo-baroque style and many, many other things. If you are interested in stores, there are a lot of designer ones in this street, for example
2. The ZOO -  if you like animals, this is the perfect place for you. It's one of the biggest ZOOs in Europe and has all animals you can possibly think of. If you're an animal lover, Haus des Meeres is another place you just have to visit. You're not allowed to touch the animals (obviously), but you can do it when no one is looking ;) . There are some pretty cool monkeys and birds that you will probably fall in love with.
3. Mariahilferstrasse - the best street for shopaholics, but not very good for your wallet. You can find all kinds of stores there, from H&M, ZARA, claire's, MANGO to Muller, Marionnaud, MAC and many others. So, if you ever go to Vienna you have to visit Mariahilferstrasse.

I have to mention that there are a lot of places where you can eat turkish food. I just love it, it's really delicious.

And, here's a selfie for yall :))

Second day : Munte, Belgium
This is my favourite place in the whole wide world. The architecture is amazing. What I like the most about their buildings is that they don't have facades, they have bricks instead. That looks so beautiful. It's such a calm place to soothe your soul. The nature is absolutely magnificent and even though this is a small place, they have everything from horse farms to pools. But, if you want to go shopping I suggest you to go to Gent, Antwerp or Brussels because there are no stores in Munte. There are no hills, so you can go with bike wherever you want and just enjoy the view.

I went to their church and I have to say that is is pretty interesting.

I also visited a museum and this was quite interesting to me. This has been made by an artist from Munte who has a Down syndrome. I can't believe how people refer to the ones with Down syndrome disabled. They are obviously not disabled, they are just special. You just have to give them a chance, forget about the prejudice.

Third day : Gent
This city has such a warm spirit, I felt like I never wanted to leave. The buildings are old and they were  build in a really different way. I've never seen anything like that before. Just like in Munte, everything is made of brick, but this is a much bigger city so it's more developed. Every single building has its story and I just couldn't get enough of this city. It was love at first sight.

When you see this castle, you probably think how beautiful it looks. At least that's what I thought. But when I came inside and saw the photos of tortured people, the things they used for that, I was horrified. The king did whatever he wanted, robbed, tortured and murdered people. That big castle was built on someones blood. When you realize what happened behind those walls, the beauty just fades away and that's the picture you have in your head when you look at it.

Yupp, that's me taking photos :))

The view from the castle
This is a former prison in Gent which really reminds me of Big Ben. There is an interesting story connected to this building. A long time ago, a man was convicted to spend 30 days in prison without food or water and he was allowed one visitor per day. He chose his daughter. She recently had a baby and she breastfed her father every day and he survived. No one knew about that.

Fourth day : Shopping in Antwerp and horse farm
I didn't take a lot of photos here, just because I was busy with shopping. Either way, it's a beautiful city with a different architecture from Gent. The buildings are pretty new and it is a bit similar to Vienna.

I visited a really nice horse farm in Melle. They have 10 horses, but when I was there one of them was transferred to a different location. They have ponies and big horses. Every single horse has its own personality and they are all beautiful. They love to cuddle and I think they might be a bit jealous of each other, because when they see you petting another horse, 2 or 3 of them immediately come to you and push you gently with their head. I just love them.
Fourth day : Riding the bike and resting
This was my last day in Belgium, and I enjoyed every second of it. I was riding the bike, feeding animals, playing games... I was really sad because I was leaving, I had such a wonderful time. Oh Gosh, I want to go back ! I don't want to post the photos from this day because all of them are pretty personal.

Fifth day : Shopping in Vienna
Since I've already been to Vienna, I wasn't really into sight-seeing, I just wanted to shop 'til I drop haha. I only have a few photos, but they are also quite personal.

Sixth day : Zagreb
We only spent the night in Zagreb, and tomorrow we went to the city to explore a bit. We weren't there for too long, just a couple of hours, but here are some photos.

If you want to travel, but you don't know where, I suggest you to go to Belgium. Especially Gent. You won't regret it, trust me.
