Most Common Makeup Mistakes + ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello everyone,

before I go onto the makeup mistakes, I have to make an announcement. Starting with my next post, this blog will be bilingual! The reason behind this decision is because most of my readers are from the Balkans and I want to reach out to them more, and what better way to do that than to write posts in Bosnian as well. I hope you are as happy with this as I am :)

*Everyone is entitled with their own opinion and what might seem wrong to some people, it is a go to for others. No judging here :)

1. Brows
Eyebrows are a very important part of any woman's makeup routine. We see all these celebrities with beautifully groomed and filled in eyebrows and ask ourselves why weren't we blessed with them. That is usually where an eyebrow pencil comes in. Not a day goes by that I don't see at least one girl with boxy brows, or scouse brows as the makeup doctor Wayne Goss calls them. They do nothing for your face and make you look like you just used a sharpie to draw them on which is never a good look. It is a very common mistake, and let's face it, we've all been there. Trying to make a bold brow can go very bad very quickly. I myself am not an exception and you can obviously see that in the picture down below but hey, we make mistakes and we learn from them. As you can probably see, my eyebrows were thin, very dark and boxy in the beginning and they also had a high peak. That is basically everything I avoid when doing my brows now and I can write a post if you're interested.

Another common mistake when is comes to brows is neglecting them. When you do your whole face makeup, but not your brows it just looks very odd and unbalanced. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having natural brows, but if you're already doing the rest of your makeup you absolutely cannot forget them.

2. Spidery lashes
We all know the struggle when we want to comb out our lashes, especially with a new mascara and things just keep getting worse and worse. Before you know it, your eyelashes look like little spider legs which is not something anyone wants. The best tip I can give you is to know when to stop. If you see things are getting a bit too crazy, take a clear mascara wand and brush them out with it. Never use more mascara to clean up the mess, because that is exactly what makes it even worse.

3. Wrong foundation color/undertone
I know that choosing the correct shade can be very confusing when you go to a makeup aisle and see 53 different shades of foundation. The most important thing you need to know is your undertone, more precisely if your skin has a yellow undertone (warm), pink undertone (cool), neutral (mix of both) or olive which can also be considered neutral.
There are more ways you can do it, some people recommend to look at your veins, and if they look green your undertone is warm, if they're blue it is cool, but if they're somewhere in between and you can't really tell, your undertone is most likely neutral.
I think the best possible test that can hardly ever fail you is to try the different foundations on your self. First see which of them look most like your skin tone and then swipe them on your jaw toward the neck and blend them a bit. Be sure to do the swathes on that area because it is important to match the foundation with your neck, because the color of the your face may be a bit different. You don't want to look like you have a mask on with those weird foundation lines. Choosing your foundations this way gives you the ability to see which one of them blends in your skin best and looks most natural on you.

4. Too intense blush/bronzer
As you can clearly see from the first picture, my bronzer was too orange and heavily applied. The key with blush and bronzer is that you always need to have a light hand. If you want a higher intensity, you can always add more. By applying it this way you won't have any lines and it will be a whole lot easier to blend.

5. Applying only concealer
There is nothing wrong with wearing a concealer just on your dark circles and keeping the rest of the face bare. The problem is when that concealer oxidizes, which had happened to me before and it is the biggest disappointment. Instead of your undereyes looking bright, they end up looking very orangey and give an illusion that you are sick. What I would recommend when buying a new concealer is to swatch it on your hand first and kill yourself some time before going back to it and swatching it again so you can see if it's color changed.
One of my favorite concealers is Maybelline Age Rewind and even though it is high coverage, I find that the color selection is not as good. The lightest shade isn't very light on my pasty white skin, but it still covers up well. The only problem that I have with it is that it oxidizes slightly, so it doesn't look very good especially when I'm wearing it alone. If this tends to happen to you but you actually really like the texture or coverage, be sure to use a setting powder a few shades lighter. That should keep it from getting too dark.

*The picture below shows my typical makeup look, except I like my brows bolder than this but oh well. I hope that you like it and that you can find some inspiration here.

Let me know what makeup mistakes you made and also write me a comment saying what kind of posts you'd like to see in the future.

XOXO,
Ayesha
